While I know that every week can feel like party time in Hong Kong, it is officially the PARTY SEASON! Walkways, malls, and escalators are shining bright with lost-in-translation holiday slogans and lots of tinsel. The days are for gift buying and the nights are for receiving (wink wink). Time for knocking on your neighbour’s door and declaring your love for their spouse (okay… that really only works in Love Actually).
But it IS time to raise your glass to all that you have accomplished this past year… or to all you plan to accomplish next year. Time to wear sparkly sequins, twirly dresses, bedazzled shoes, bubbly little bobbles, and yes, even festive inspired novelty accessories, if you must. So feast your eyes on this assortment of holiday party looks meant to inspire and amaze. Grab your phone and let’s fill up that calendar with night after night of socialising and soirees!
If you have a company Christmas party to attend I would recommend this look by Coast, which features a conservative silhouette, but in a very festive fabric. Only a few high-end ornaments are needed to make your branches shine – like the Gucci Marmont bag, Trina Turk ring, Marni earrings and the Valentino Rolling Rockstud pumps. I’ve asked Santa for these shoes every year but clearly I haven’t been good enough yet (being bad is so much more fun!).
Opt for a smoky eye made possible with this Nars palette, which also makes for a great stocking stuffer. Finally, spritz on a little Tom Ford Black Orchid for an engaging yet intense aroma that will even make Santa do a double take. Watch out Mrs. Claus!
A Date to Remember
Have a special someone that you want to light up like Rudolph’s nose? Try this slip dress! Says who? Calvin Klein… and me! But even in Clueless Cher’s dad knows that you need something over it (“duh! I was just going to”) which is why I picked this overcoat from Mango to top the look.
Add a few accessories that were made for a night out like this starry night clutch from KOTUR and these satin bow Miu Miu pumps. The thin gold choker harkens back to the 90s, while the Bobbi Brown gold shimmer and black gel eyeliner give a little wink at the fun that is to come in the future. Here’s hoping Paul Rudd finds his way under your Christmas Tree (Josh forever!).
Trim the Tree
As an alternative to the ugly Christmas sweater party, I give you the tremendous tree skirt by Nº21! Just one look at this and your heart grows three sizes! Because of the flounce and fabulousness from the hips down we need to keep the top simple. Button down shirts have been given the best make over this past year, so join in on the trend and rock a cropped version by Alice + Olivia.
Wrap your feet up in these Loeffler Randall oxfords, which make it impossible not to kick up your heels and dance! Instead of a star on top, I opt for a razzle dazzle necklace by Night Market.
Play up your excited expressions with a well-groomed brow. Benefit’s Ka-brow will shape the look and Gimmie Brow will hold it all in place while adding a bit of colour as well. Next grab a candle gift set from Jo Malone to give to the hostess for a treat she’ll love. Remember to send a handwritten thank you note the next day to secure your invite to next year’s shindig!
If you plan to stay up all night ringing in the New Year then you had better have an outfit that can hang until 2017. This relaxed Mango sweater paired with silver skinny Isabel Marant jeans will keep you looking cool and comfy ’til the sun comes up, no matter where you choose to celebrate.
Sling this Furla bag over your shoulder for a chill vibe and top it all off with an incredible midnight blue Rag & Bone hat, which will hide the under eye circles the next morning too. Tie your tootsies up with a bow in these Schutz pumps and be your own present. Then grab your #girlsquad and countdown the seconds on your Michael Kors watch and kiss 2016 goodbye!
2016 has been a year to remember so let’s send it out with a bang! I love to doll up head to toe, pop a bottle of bubbly, and dance ’til I can’t feel my feet. If that’s your vibe too, then take inspiration from these looks and create your own outfit that’s fit for fun. But no matter how you choose to celebrate, whether you say yes to as many parties as you can, or curl up on the couch with someone special, take some time to reflect on all of your experiences this past year. Who knows what 2017 will hold, but I’m excited to find out! Thank you for a very special 2016. See you next year!
