The tree is lit and the family is near so pour the cocoa and gather ’round. In my family we watch Christmas movies every night leading up towards the big day but save It’s a Wonderful Life for Christmas Eve. We watch this classic while sipping big mugs of my special hot chocolate that I make from scratch with our festive pj’s on in front of the fire. It is by far my favorite moment of the year! Just knowing that Santa will soon pop down the chimney and the world will be quieted for a few moments makes everything seem so much brighter and merry. Here is our special family recipe sure to warm you from the inside out…
Spicy Cinnamon Hot Chocolate
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
½ tsp cinnamon
Combine the cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt in a saucepan. Blend in the boiling water. Bring this mixture to an easy boil while you stir. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Watch that it doesn’t scorch. Stir in 3 1/2 cups of milk and heat until very hot, but do not boil! Remove from heat and add vanilla, pepper, and cinnamon. Divide between 2-4 mugs (we use large mugs!). Add the cream to the mugs of cocoa to cool it to drinking temperature. Enjoy!
To you and yours, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
