There are nine months leading up to the birth of your little one and body changes aren’t the only thing you may notice altering. You may see your style change as time goes by too. Anything uncomfortable goes straight out the window as you opt for bump friendly pieces that also allow you to feel your best during this fickle time.
For the most part though, you can still let your personal style shine through while showing off that bump. But once baby is here gone are the big necklaces, strapless bras, shorter skirts, and one glance at a dry clean only tag renders it unwearable! I’m here to show you how to keep your cool girl style once you become a new mum!
Let’s take a look at a few fashionable and very babe-friendly looks.
Mum On The Go
We start with an on-trend button down pyjama top for two very practical reasons. First, feeding requires easy access to the goods on demand so buttons are your functional friend. Secondly, you will be missing out on some serious z’s so why not save yourself a step when getting ready for bed! I can’t recommend pants enough for the mum about town. A stretchy jegging will move with you and allow for comfort around your midsection while you are healing. Choose one with an edgy ripped knee and its like you never left the party! Pants are also great as you will constantly be bending over to pick up baby in and out of the stroller.
And what a pram to push!? This is the latest in hip baby gear: the Bugaboo by Diesel Rock collab! This four wheeled dream features Bugaboo’s classic clean design but with very cool added extras like a studded leather-look canopy and chrome-like wheel caps and kick plate. There is even a black on black “Only The Brave” tattoo on the back of the seat. Clearly this is a special piece so get it while it lasts!
Finish the look with a sleek guitar pick necklace that adds to the rock vibe which can be softened with a set of initials. May I suggest using those of your new little front man or lady? I chose an oversize Danielle Nicole satchel with cross body strap for the bag option. I never did use a diaper bag and chose to haul my life in something more like this at the start as it felt more true to who I had been pre-baby. The long strap allows you to go hands free because it never seems like you have enough arms when dealing with a new one!
Last but not least is a luxe little shoe in a touch of colour to add dimension to the look. I kept it flat for obvious reasons as I’m sure you will be racing around showing off your new love to all your friends and family… though hopefully they will make the trek to you!
It seems it’s never too early to start socialising kiddos these days so keep it comfy in this DVF playsuit. The dark print will hide the liquid gifts that your babe is sure to bestow upon you. Plus, that ever-important open front will aid in the endless feeding times. Speaking of feeding times, keep track of your to-the-minute schedule with this black on black watch from Revolve Clothing. The only other accessories needed are a pair of graphic shades for sunny park strolls and some tiny stud earrings. Anything more than this and little hands may find a way to make it their own.
Keep babe cool in a flouncy graphic print dress but that isn’t the only kiddo-centric item here. Can you spot the mum gear masquerading as a fashion find? It’s this amazing Timi and Leslie Charlie seven-piece diaper bag available at Mayarya. It’s so good even fab mum Jessica Alba has been spotted toting it with her tots. White loafers add just the right amount of understated pizzazz while keeping you comfortable as you laugh and chat about the sometimes uncomfortable mum hurdles with the rest of your clique.
When it’s time for baby to accompany you to your fave hipster coffee house for a decaf iced latte (babycinnos will be on your bill soon enough!) then here is your #OOTD. While the off-the-shoulder trend is tricky for any one sporting a nursing bra this shirt allows you to show the skin of the moment and still keeps those hook straps covered. I am pushing the limits with this white bottom option but they are actually high waisted denim shorts so if any baby spills occur then you can throw them right in the wash. Or better yet, cover your lap with this super chic Pia Wallen cross blanket!
Backpacks were a wardrobe staple for me when I would use a baby carrier as they better distributed the weight and made long walks easier. This Grafea backpack will easily hold your baby gear, plus a Polaroid camera for you, and a little wooden one for your plus one (we’ve got you covered with tips on wearing the backpack trend). Lace up snakeskin flats by Michael Kors to complete the look and add a little texture to the ensemble.
So rest up mama, because once babe is here you will be on the top of everyone’s must-see list. I hope these outfits give you a little hope that there is a fashion future after baby. With a few minor changes and a little forethought you can pull off a stylish look with ease. Each outfit is basic black and white and easy to mix and match making getting dressed a snap. Your time will be at a premium so the less fussing around getting yourself ready the better. You’re sure to lose your cool here and there on this wild ride of parenting (and that is okay!) but thanks to these looks you can stay looking cool… even if it is only on the outside.
